After a year since its release, the Nintendo Switch 2 is beginning to attract more third-party support, with several AAA titles planned for the handheld console. Among them is Resident Evil Requiem, scheduled to launch later this week.
Capcom Initially Doubted Switch 2 Performance
Nintendo has been promoting the Switch 2 as a handheld device capable of running AAA games. Initial doubts about its performance following launch have gradually subsided over the past year. This growing confidence is now extending to major game developers.
Capcom initially expressed skepticism about the Switch 2’s ability to handle demanding titles like RE Requiem, questioning whether the hardware was powerful enough. However, the development team was ultimately surprised by the results, requiring multiple checks to confirm the performance they were achieving.
Game director Koshi Nakanishi shared his experience developing the game for the Switch 2 in Nintendo’s latest Creator’s Voice video. He described the team’s initial skepticism and their subsequent surprise at the console’s capabilities. The success of titles on the Switch 2 demonstrates the increasing power of handheld gaming devices.
As the Switch 2 gains traction, it is frequently compared to the Xbox Series S in terms of performance.

The RE Engine has similarly received praise for its ability to deliver impressive visuals across different hardware configurations while maintaining stable performance. Early previews of Resident Evil Requiem on the Switch 2 showcase impressive ray tracing capabilities and a consistent framerate.
Resident Evil Requiem is set to release on February 27th.
