Reyes Coca-Cola Bottling Begins $47.5 Million Downtown LA Facility Revitalization
Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass yesterday marked the start of a $47.5 million revitalization project at Reyes Coca-Cola Bottling’s historic Downtown LA facility, a key step in preparing the city for the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The project, officially launched with a groundbreaking ceremony on November 9, 2025, will modernize “The Ship,” a cultural monument that has been a Coca-Cola bottling site since 1902 and received historic cultural landmark status in 1976. Mayor Bass emphasized the investment signals Los Angeles is “open for business” and will continue to support local jobs. “Los Angeles is an economic engine, connecting local businesses to the rest of the country and the world,” Bass said.
Reyes Coca-Cola Bottling Market Unit President of Los Angeles and Nevada, David Carey, stated, “We are thrilled to mark the start of another chapter in our history in downtown Los Angeles.” The revitalization is part of a broader effort to revitalize Downtown LA as an economic and cultural hub; last month, Mayor Bass also celebrated the expansion of the LA Convention Center. This investment comes as the city anticipates increased tourism and economic activity leading up to and during the 2028 Olympics, requiring significant infrastructure improvements.
Councilmember Ysabel Jurado highlighted the project’s importance, stating, “Reyes Coca-Cola Bottling’s investment is exactly the kind of partnership Downtown Los Angeles needs.” Officials anticipate the modernized facility will continue to provide good union jobs and contribute to the city’s economic resilience. The project is expected to be completed in advance of the 2028 games.
