Rosario Central has been officially crowned the 2025 Liga Champion by the Argentine Football Association, marking a important shift in the country’s top-flight football structure. The decision, formalized today with a ceremony at AFA headquarters attended by club leadership and players including Ángel di María, recognizes Rosario Central’s consistent performance throughout the 2025 apertura and Clausura seasons [[2]]. This new “Liga Champion” title, reintroduced after a three-year hiatus, will accompany the existing Apertura, Clausura, and Champions Cup competitions, and guarantees the team access to the International Super cup and CONMEBOL Libertadores.
Rosario Central has been officially recognized as the 2025 Liga Champions by the Argentine Football Association (AFA) Executive Committee, led by President Claudio ‘Chiqui’ Tapia, after finishing atop the annual league table.
A delegation from the club, including President Gonzalo Belloso, Vice President Carolina Cistinziano, Head Coach Ariel Holan, and players Jorge Broun and Ángel di María, traveled to AFA headquarters to collect the championship trophy.
Rosario Central secured the ‘Liga Champions’ title by accumulating the most points across all 32 matchdays of the 2025 Apertura and Clausura phases. This marks a significant achievement for the club in the Argentine top flight.
“This plan has been in development for several years, to reintroduce the annual champion,” explained President Gonzalo Belloso. “Going forward, this tournament will be added alongside the Apertura, Clausura, and the Champions Cup, and the Annual Champion will return. Today, we officially recognized the current champion.”
The coach admitted the news came as a surprise, stating, “We found out last night. We were going to train this morning, but we moved the session to the afternoon.”

Previously, from 2021, the ‘Champions Trophy’ pitted the two champions of the domestic tournament against each other annually.
In a statement, the AFA announced that it “has resolved to recognize the team that finishes first in the Annual Table as the Liga Champion – that is, the team that accumulates the most points throughout the season – in addition to the previously stipulated benefits (access to the International Super Cup and qualification for the CONMEBOL Libertadores).”
