Firefighters Respond to Rouen Apartment Fire, Two Critically Injured
“I heard people shouting,” a neighbor told reporters while observing the ongoing emergency response. Firefighters were called to the scene around 9:30 p.m. for a fire that broke out in a ground-floor apartment on Rue Bouvreuil.
Another resident reported seeing firefighters carry two unconscious individuals from the building. Rouen Mayor Nicolas Mayer-Rossignol confirmed the two victims, estimated to be between 70 and 75 years old, were transported to the hospital in critical condition. “They were taken to the hospital in absolute emergency,” Mayer-Rossignol stated.
A third person, a tenant in an upper-floor apartment, was also treated but was not injured. A vehicle parked near the apartment sustained damage in the blaze.
The cause of the fire remains unknown at this time, and police are investigating. As of 10:30 p.m., firefighters continued working to secure the area. The investigation will aim to determine the origin of the fire and assess the full extent of the damage.
