Jakarta, Indonesia – The Indonesian rupiah is expected to experience volatility against the U.S. dollar on Monday, December 15, 2025, with forecasts pointing to a closing value in the range of Rp16,640 to Rp16,700 per dollar. This comes as global markets continue to assess the trajectory of interest rates and economic conditions.
The rupiah ended the previous trading week, Friday, December 12, 2025, with a gain of 0.18%, or 30 basis points, reaching Rp16,646 per dollar, according to Bloomberg data. Simultaneously, the U.S. dollar index edged down 0.02% to 98.36.
Several factors are influencing the rupiah’s movement this week. Initial jobless claims in the U.S. for the week ending December 6th rose sharply to 236,000, a significant increase from the previously revised figure of 192,000. This weaker-than-expected labor market data is putting downward pressure on the dollar.
Adding to the market dynamics, the Federal Reserve recently lowered interest rates by 25 basis points to a range of 3.50% to 3.75%, the lowest level in three years. However, Fed policymakers have signaled a potential pause in further rate cuts as they monitor trends in the labor market and persistent inflationary pressures. The Fed’s cautious approach reflects the ongoing uncertainty surrounding the U.S. economic outlook.
Domestically, the Indonesian government is preparing a special economic policy package to support recovery efforts in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra. This initiative aligns with the directives of President Prabowo Subianto, signaling a commitment to regional economic stability.
Further government measures are also under development, including debt forgiveness and restructuring programs for recipients of micro and small enterprise (KUR) credit. These policies aim to bolster the financial health of small businesses and stimulate economic growth.
Considering these conditions, Ibrahim Assuaibi, Director of PT Traze Andalan Futures, projects that the rupiah will trade in a fluctuating range but ultimately weaken to Rp16,640-Rp16,700 on Monday, December 15, 2025.
