Naples-based singer-songwriter Sal Da Vinci has postponed a celebratory event following his win at the Sanremo Festival. The artist, who took home the top prize with his song “Per sempre sì,” made the decision in light of the funeral for two-year-traditional Domenico Caliendo, who tragically passed away after a heart transplant at the Monaldi hospital.
Da Vinci had planned to mark his victory with a celebration in Naples on Wednesday, March 4, but opted to reschedule after learning the date coincided with Caliendo’s funeral, which was held at the Nola Cathedral at 3:00 PM. The service was officiated by Cardinal Mimmo Battaglia and attended by Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.
The decision was confirmed through a message shared by Deputy Francesco Emilio Borrelli, who posted a screenshot of a conversation with a concerned citizen. The citizen had asked Borrelli to request Da Vinci postpone the event due to the timing conflict with the funeral.
Da Vinci’s response was swift and resolute: “The child comes first.”

Borrelli’s post quickly garnered an outpouring of support and emotion. Many followers praised the artist’s “big heart,” noting his frequent visits to children in hospitals and describing the decision as a natural reflection of his sensitivity. The celebration will be rescheduled, as the focus for the Campania community remains on mourning the loss of young Domenico Caliendo.
