Samsung has revealed the first details of its upcoming AI-powered smart glasses. After months of speculation, the South Korean manufacturer confirmed some specifications for the Galaxy Glass, including a potential launch timeframe. The glasses are slated to arrive soon to compete with Ray-Ban Meta and will include a feature intended to surpass the competition.
In an interview with CNBC, Jay Kim, head of Samsung’s mobile division, confirmed the company is developing smart glasses that will connect to your mobile device. While development of the device was announced in 2023 alongside Qualcomm and Google, details about the Galaxy Glass have largely been limited to leaks and specification sheets.
According to Kim, Samsung’s smart glasses will feature a camera integrated at eye level, similar to the Ray-Ban Meta glasses. The executive stated the camera will be a vital component for the AI to understand your surroundings and provide useful information. Like Meta’s device, the Galaxy Glass will initially include only cameras and microphones, though they will be able to synchronize with your mobile phone to leverage their capabilities.
This approach has spurred competition as other companies seek to gain market share from Meta. While Mark Zuckerberg’s company already offers glasses with a built-in display, the standard Ray-Ban Meta model remains its flagship product. This is largely due to its ability to be worn as an everyday accessory and blend in, unlike Apple’s Vision Pro or other VR/AR headsets. The growing interest in wearable AI underscores the potential for a new era of computing.
A previous report indicated Samsung was working on two models: one with a camera and microphones, and a more advanced version with integrated displays. Kim did not confirm this strategy, but indicated that users can apply their mobile phone or Galaxy Watch if they need to interact with a screen. This suggests the manufacturer will initially focus on a basic model to gauge interest before expanding to a more complex device.
Perhaps most importantly, the head of Samsung’s mobile division said he expects “to have something for the industry this year.”
Currently, limited information exists regarding the Galaxy Glass beyond its components and functionality. Samsung has not announced whether it will partner with a well-known brand, as Meta did with Ray-Ban. Neither the price nor a specific launch date has been revealed; we only know it could debut in 2026.
Samsung’s smart glasses will be the result of a collaboration with Qualcomm and Google. The South Korean company aims to emulate the Ray-Ban Meta, and will utilize a modern design with photochromic lenses similar to Transitions. The Galaxy Glass, known by its model number SM-O200P, will feature a Snapdragon AR1 processor and a 155 mAh battery.
In addition to synchronization with your Galaxy devices, these glasses will include a button to activate the camera and capture photos or videos. A touch panel located on the side will allow control of music playback or invocation of Gemini and access to AI functions. Because the Galaxy Glass functions in conjunction with your mobile phone, you’ll have access to the new Bixby with Perplexity, as well as other features of One UI 8.5.
