Health officials in San Francisco, Venezuela, have launched a hepatitis B vaccination campaign aimed at protecting vulnerable populations. The initiative, spearheaded by the Municipal Public Health Institute (Imsasur), is part of broader public health policies driven by Mayor Héctor Soto and falls under the government’s 7 Transformations (7T) health plan. Hepatitis B is a serious liver infection that can lead to chronic illness and liver cancer, making preventative vaccination crucial for public health.

The free vaccination drive prioritizes pregnant women, newborns between 0 and 7 days old, patients undergoing dialysis treatment, and healthcare workers up to age 49. This targeted approach ensures timely access to immunization for those at highest risk of infection and potential complications.

The campaign will run until February 27th, operating Monday through Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Imsasur headquarters, located on Avenida 25, adjacent to the San Francisco CICPC headquarters. Residents eligible for the vaccine are encouraged to take advantage of this readily available preventative measure.

Dr. Yohandry Luzardo, director of Imsasur, emphasized the institute’s commitment to collective health, stating, “We invite pregnant women, newborns and patients in dialysis to protect their wellbeing. Taking care of ourselves is everyone’s responsibility and our patients are always our priority.” This statement underscores the importance of community participation in public health initiatives.

The effort represents a collaborative commitment from national, regional, and municipal governments to guarantee access to preventative healthcare, promote health awareness, and strengthen primary care services within the San Francisco municipality. By prioritizing collective wellbeing and safeguarding lives, officials hope to improve overall public health outcomes in the region.
