May 8, 2026 — Thailand’s leading construction and landscape innovation company, SCG, has launched a bold new initiative aimed at redefining urban living across the country. Under the banner “สร้างเมืองน่าเดินให้เดินได้เดินดี ทุกวิถีทั่วไทย” (Building Cities Worth Walking, Where Every Path Leads to Better Living), the company is championing a vision for walkable cities that prioritize public health, economic vitality and environmental sustainability.
At a recent forum titled “Walkable City, Livable Economy – เมืองน่าเดิน พาเมืองเดินหน้า” (Walkable Cities Drive Urban Economies), SCG brought together urban planners, policymakers, and industry leaders to discuss how improved pedestrian infrastructure can elevate quality of life and spur economic growth. The event, held at the Impact Muang Thong Thani exhibition, underscored the critical role of accessible, well-designed public spaces in fostering healthier communities and more resilient cities.
Speaking at the event, SCG’s Chief Marketing Officer, Krairuk Kongkasem, emphasized that the initiative is not just about creating walkable streets, but about integrating innovative materials and sustainable design into the urban fabric. “Our goal is to transform Thailand’s cities into places where people want to walk, not just because they have to, but because it’s a pleasure,” Kongkasem said. “By investing in pedestrian-friendly infrastructure, we can reduce traffic congestion, lower carbon emissions, and create vibrant public spaces that benefit everyone.”
Key to the initiative is collaboration between public policy and private innovation. Harissa Amatyakul, Director of the Engineering Department at Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, shared insights into the city’s plans to enhance pedestrian pathways and public areas, aligning with the national push for more inclusive and sustainable urban development. “Bangkok is committed to becoming a model for walkable cities in Southeast Asia,” Amatyakul noted. “This requires a coordinated effort across government agencies, designers, and the construction industry to ensure our streets are safe, accessible, and inviting for all residents.”
SCG’s initiative aligns with a growing global trend toward pedestrian-first urban planning, which studies show can reduce obesity rates, improve mental health, and boost local economies by making cities more attractive to residents and visitors alike. By focusing on Thailand’s diverse urban landscapes—from bustling metropolises to smaller towns—the company aims to demonstrate how thoughtful design and cutting-edge materials can create spaces that are both functional and inspiring.
As Thailand continues to urbanize, the push for walkable cities represents a forward-looking approach to development that balances economic growth with public well-being. SCG’s vision is a reminder that the cities of tomorrow will be shaped not just by the roads they build, but by the paths they invite people to explore.
