‘Scream 7’ Trailer Released, Featuring Neve Campbell’s Return Amidst Cast Departures

The first trailer for “Scream 7” was released yesterday, confirming Neve Campbell’s return as Sidney Prescott alongside a new cast dynamic following the exits of several key actors.

The trailer reveals Ghostface targeting Prescott and her daughter, Tatum, played by Isabel May. Campbell’s return comes after she previously left the franchise over a pay dispute, but fans have expressed mixed reactions, with many voicing disappointment over the absence of Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega. Barrera was fired from the project over social media posts regarding the conflict in Palestine, which Spyglass Media alleged contained an antisemitic trope. “Do not forget what spyglass did to Melissa Barrera. stand with Palestine. Boycott,” one social media user posted on X.

Following Barrera’s departure, Ortega voluntarily left the project, stating the decision wasn’t related to pay or scheduling. “The Melissa stuff was happening, and it was all kind of falling apart,” she told The Cut earlier this year. Director Christopher Landon also exited the film, calling it a “dream job that turned into a nightmare.” The film is now directed by franchise creator Kevin Williamson, with Courtney Cox and Jasmin Savoy Brown also returning, alongside Matthew Lillard, David Arquette, and Scott Foley reprising roles from previous installments. The controversy surrounding the cast changes highlights the increasing intersection of social and political issues with entertainment production, potentially impacting audience engagement with long-running franchises like Scream.

“Scream 7” is scheduled for release in February, and Spyglass Media has stated they are committed to delivering a compelling continuation of the horror series despite the challenges faced during production.
