Senegal and Liechtenstein are seeking to strengthen ties, with a focus on sustainable agriculture, following discussions held on the sidelines of a major international forum.

Senegalese Minister of African Integration, Foreign Affairs and Senegalese Abroad, Cheikh Niang, met with Liechtenstein’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dominique Hasler, on February 23, 2026, during the High-Level Segment of the 61st session of the Council on Human Rights in Geneva. The meeting signals a renewed commitment to bilateral cooperation between the two nations.

The discussions centered on bolstering the legal framework for bilateral cooperation and establishing strategic partnerships. A key area of focus was sustainable agriculture, which Senegal views as crucial for modernizing its production systems while addressing environmental concerns. The move underscores Senegal’s commitment to diversifying its economic partnerships.

According to officials, the two ministers explored opportunities for collaboration that would facilitate the transfer of expertise, promote innovation, and encourage investment in key sectors. Both sides reaffirmed their dedication to strengthening the friendship and cooperation between Dakar and Vaduz, emphasizing constructive dialogue and mutual respect.

Cheikh Niang previously served as Senegal’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations from July 2018 to September 2025, according to his biography. He assumed his current role as Minister of Foreign Affairs on September 5, 2025.
