Škoda SUV Leads European Sales Rankings
The Czech automaker’s SUV model topped the sales charts in Europe during January, with 8,426 registrations. This performance positions Škoda as a key player in the increasingly competitive European automotive market.
The Tesla Model Y fell to third place with 6,601 units, while the Renault 5 E-Tech secured the second spot. The Tesla Model 3 has notably dropped out of the top 10 best-selling vehicles to start the year.
BYD Gains Ground in European Market
Volkswagen remains the leading brand overall with 17,230 registrations, followed by Renault (14,447) and Škoda (14,022). Tesla has slipped to 10th position with 7,794 units, trailing Peugeot (8,105) and BYD (8,711), which is demonstrating a growing presence in the European automotive sector.
BYD’s performance confirms its increasing momentum against competitors in the European market. The impact of recently released entry-level versions of the Tesla Model 3 and Model Y, launched at the conclude of last year, remains to be seen.
Electric Vehicle Sales Continue to Rise
Despite an overall market decline of 3.9%, electric vehicle registrations accounted for 19.3% of all sales, a 4.4% increase compared to January 2025. In Belgium, however, electric vehicles experienced a negative differential of -11.5%, though less pronounced than the overall market’s 18.7% decrease.
