Sparta Prague is enjoying a triumphant run in the UEFA Europa Conference League, recently securing a decisive victory over Aberdeen with a clean sheet and a 3-0 scoreline. While excelling on the European stage, the club faces challenges maintaining consistent form in the Czech First League, prompting questions about player motivation and performance levels as they aim too close the seven-point gap behind league leaders Slavia Prague. sporting Director Tomáš Rosický has addressed these concerns as the team prepares for the competition’s round of 16 in march.

Sparta Prague Advances in Conference League, Addresses Domestic Form

Sparta Prague secured a victory over Aberdeen, continuing their strong run in the UEFA Europa Conference League. The team delivered a solid performance, netting three goals while maintaining a clean sheet. “We played a good match, scored three goals. We didn’t allow the opponent any chances, kept a clean sheet. We won before Christmas at Letná, which is great,” a team representative stated. The club is evaluating their overall Conference League campaign as “very good.”

Vindahl’s Confidence and Championship Ambitions

Goalkeeper Peter Vindahl recently expressed belief that Sparta Prague is capable of defeating any opponent in the competition. When asked about a potential run to the title, the representative agreed, saying, “I agree with Peter. We’ve managed to advance to the next phase now, anything can happen there. The draw and luck will also play a role. It’s too early to talk about whether we can win the Conference League. We are focusing on the round of 16 in March, and then we’ll see what happens.”

Rosický Points to Motivation Concerns in Czech League

While thriving in European competition, Sparta Prague’s domestic league form has been inconsistent. Sporting Director Tomáš Rosický recently told Nova Sport that some players are lacking long-term motivation. The representative acknowledged the issue, stating, “We started well in the league, but unfortunately we went through a weaker period. It’s hard to find the main reason. Whether it’s due to a lack of motivation, less hunger for success, or lower quality. However, I stand by the fact that the first half of the season was overall solid.” The team is still adjusting after a busy offseason. “Sparta had a difficult season, there were changes in the squad and coaching staff in the summer. This won’t be solved overnight. We are still in the MOL Cup and the Conference League, and we are second in the league. Of course, we are not satisfied with second place and being seven points behind Slavia. Our task for the spring is clear – to catch Slavia.”

Vindahl’s Performance Under Scrutiny

Rosický also commented on individual players, noting that Peter Vindahl helped Sparta to a title and Champions League qualification but needs to provide more consistent support now. The representative concurred, saying, “Peter is a good goalkeeper. Yes, he could have acted better in some conceded goals, but he has also saved many clean sheets. It’s not possible for him to save everything, of course. Peter is excellent with his feet, he is the best goalkeeper in the Czech league in that regard. He is doing his best for Sparta.”

Birmančević Out of the Starting Lineup

Veljko Birmančević was surprisingly left out of the starting lineup in the last two matches. “You can see how well Mercad is playing now. Other players have also improved and are performing well. Birma trains hard and gives his all in matches. Sometimes, however, even that is not enough when his competitors are playing excellently. The same applies to Filip Panák.”

Sadílek’s Potential Departure

After the match, the Sparta Prague supporters bid farewell to midfielder Lukáš Sadílek, who is reportedly close to a transfer to Górnik Zabrze. “I don’t know. There are many rumors and speculations surrounding him. I spoke with him, but nothing is final. We have to wait and see how the whole matter turns out. In any case, the reaction of the fans speaks for itself. Lukáš has a huge impact on the team, he is absolutely dedicated to the club and his teammates. That’s why everyone likes him. Whatever happens, I wish him and his family all the best.”
