A Mercedes-Benz vehicle was caught traveling at 231 kilometers per hour (approximately 144 mph) in a zone where speed limits are strictly enforced, authorities have reported.

The incident, which occurred last week, has surprised both experienced police officers and emergency responders, not only due to the excessive speed but also because of the hazardous weather conditions at the time. Temperatures were hovering around freezing, and wet roads presented a risk of black ice.

The location where the speeding occurred is known to be a frequent site of traffic accidents. Despite this, the driver of the Mercedes-Benz apparently disregarded the danger.

The identity of the driver remains unknown, but data collected from the speed radar is expected to be sufficient for identification.

If found guilty, the driver faces a fine of 700 euros (approximately $750 USD or 17,000 Czech koruna), a three-month driving ban, two penalty points on their license, and a mandatory psychological evaluation.

Authorities are also investigating whether the vehicle was involved in illegal street racing, which is prohibited in Germany and subject to criminal prosecution.
