Superman to Join U.S. Army in New Comic Book Arc

A dramatic reimagining of Superman’s origin story will see the iconic hero serving as a soldier in the U.S. Army, as revealed through variant cover art for Action Comics #1094.

The cover, created by Ryan Sook, depicts a teenage Clark Kent, as Superboy, outfitted in blue camouflage and black tactical body armor, complete with the Superman “S” insignia. The storyline, penned by Mark Waid, revisits Clark Kent’s early days and his initial interactions with the U.S. military after his superhuman abilities were detected in Kansas. According to the official synopsis, the January 2026 issue will explore Clark’s first mission under the command of General Sam Lane, father of Lois Lane, and the potential consequences of his involvement.

The plot description indicates a growing tension as the U.S. government prepares a contingency plan should Superboy become a threat, while also hinting at a threat to the Kent farm. This development marks a significant departure from traditional Superman narratives, potentially reshaping the character’s relationship with the military and his role as a symbol of hope. The storyline echoes themes explored in other modern superhero interpretations, such as those found in the DC Universe.

Action Comics #1094 is scheduled for release on January 14, 2026, and DC officials have stated that this new arc will challenge Superman’s core values and force him to confront difficult choices about his place in the world.
