Switzerland consistently ranks among the countries with the highest quality mobile networks in Europe, a position recently reaffirmed by comprehensive testing. A new assessment by German tech magazine “Connect” awarded top marks to Swiss providers Swisscom, Sunrise, and Salt, with Swisscom extending its winning streak to eight consecutive years. The tests-which evaluated performance across 41 cities and various public spaces-offer a valuable snapshot of the competitive landscape and ongoing investment in Swiss telecommunications infrastructure. These findings are critical for consumers and businesses alike as they navigate choices in a rapidly evolving technological environment.

  • A recent mobile network test by “Connect” magazine evaluates Swiss networks.
  • Swisscom wins the test for the eighth consecutive time.
  • Sunrise and Salt take second and third place, respectively.

Mobile network quality in Switzerland remains exceptionally high, with leading providers Swisscom, Sunrise, and Salt consistently performing well in tests conducted by German technology magazine “Connect.” This year’s assessment awarded all three carriers an “outstanding” rating. The results are closely watched as they reflect the competitive landscape in a key European telecom market.

Detailed Results

The three companies achieved near-maximum scores out of a possible 1000 points. Swisscom secured first place for the eighth year in a row, with the following results:

  • 1st Place: Swisscom: 983 points, six points higher than the previous year’s test
  • 2nd Place: Sunrise: 975 points, two points higher than the previous year
  • 3rd Place: Salt: 972 points, 20 points higher than the previous year

Swisscom demonstrated the strongest data performance in smaller towns, while Sunrise edged out its competitor with slightly better results in major cities. Data consistency across all three networks was comparable on roadways. Swisscom also led in data performance on trains, with a one-percentage-point advantage over Sunrise, followed by Salt. As the market leader, Swisscom also maintains a leading position in 5G coverage, with Sunrise and Salt trailing slightly behind.

Competition Intensifies

Swiss providers are narrowing the gap with competitors in Germany and Austria, according to the testing data. However, testers attribute this not to a decline in Swiss network quality, but rather to improvements made by Telekom in Germany and Magenta in Austria. This suggests a broader trend of increasing investment and innovation in European mobile infrastructure.

The tests involved two weeks of data collection, with four vehicles traversing 41 Swiss cities. A separate team conducted on-foot assessments in train stations, airports, cafes, public transportation, and museums across eight cities.
