Nate Shelley’s Return to ‘Ted Lasso’ Season 4 Remains Unconfirmed

Actor Nick Mohammed has declined to confirm or deny his involvement in the upcoming fourth season of the Emmy-winning series Ted Lasso, fueling speculation about the fate of his character, Nate Shelley.

Mohammed, who portrayed the former AFC Richmond assistant coach, offered a coy response when questioned about joining the production currently underway in Kansas City. “I think sworn to secrecy is about right,” he told Collider. “Look, I know that it’s about a whole different set of characters. I can’t even talk about it without giving anything away! We’ll have to see. We’ll have to see who pops up where and when. But I know that they’re filming it now, and I’ve been socializing with them all. They’re all very well, so we’ll see what happens.”

Filming for Season 4 began in July, with Jason Sudeikis, Juno Temple, Brendan Hunt, Hannah Waddingham, Brett Goldstein, and Jeremy Swift among those already on location. The season will see Ted Lasso return to Richmond to coach a second division women’s football team, a significant shift for the series. Earlier this year, Mohammed hinted at scheduling conflicts due to filming, playfully displaying a Ted Lasso prop while announcing postponed comedy tour dates and stating he couldn’t shift the dates “for love of money.” The show’s success has significantly boosted interest in women’s soccer in the United States.

The official logline for Season 4 indicates the team and Ted will be “learning to leap before they look, taking chances they never thought they would.” Production is expected to move from Kansas City back to London following the initial filming phase.

Representatives for the show have not commented on Mohammed’s potential return, and further details regarding the cast will be released as production progresses.
