Thailand’s delegation for the 2026 Asian Beach Games has been officially unveiled, with sprinter Joseph Jonathan Weston and hurdler Juthathip Kandtong named as the nation’s flag bearers for the opening ceremony in Sanya, China.

The announcement was made by the Sports Authority of Thailand on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, confirming that Weston and Kandtong will lead the Thai contingent during the March 22 opening festivities at Sanya Yasha Park. The sixth edition of the Asian Beach Games is scheduled to run from April 22 to April 30, 2026, in the coastal city of Sanya.

Weston, a prominent figure in Thai athletics, and Kandtong, a decorated hurdler, were selected to carry the Thai tricolor flag as part of the traditional opening ceremony protocol. Their selection highlights Thailand’s commitment to showcasing its top athletic talent on the continental stage.

The Thai team, comprising athletes across multiple beach and water-based disciplines, departed Suvarnabhumi Airport earlier today aboard flight DE 2366 at 2:35 PM local time. The delegation includes competitors in beach athletics, dragon boat, jujitsu, beach kabaddi, teqball, men’s water polo, beach volleyball, and beach football.

Among the notable athletes making their Asian Beach Games debut is sprinter Puripol Boonson, nicknamed “Beam,” who is preparing for his first competitive experience running on sand. His participation marks a new challenge for the Thai sprint star as he adapts to the unique demands of beach athletics.

Thailand has set an ambitious target of securing 15 gold medals at the Games, reflecting the nation’s high aspirations for the multi-sport event. The competition will feature events held across Sanya’s beaches and coastal facilities, leveraging the city’s reputation as a premier destination for marine sports.

Broadcast partners T Sports 7 have confirmed live coverage of both the opening and closing ceremonies, ensuring Thai audiences can follow the team’s progress throughout the tournament. The Asian Beach Games, recognized as Asia’s premier beach and water sports festival, continues to grow in stature and participation since its inception.
