Indonesia’s Futsal Team Rockets to 14th in FIFA World Rankings

The Indonesian national futsal team has achieved a historic surge in the FIFA World Rankings, climbing 10 spots to secure the 14th position globally. The latest rankings, released on Friday, May 8, 2026, highlight a period of unprecedented growth for the “Garuda” squad.

Indonesia’s rapid ascent is fueled by a significant points boost. The team added 78.85 points to its previous total of 1,190.97, bringing its current standing to 1,269.82 points. This leap puts Indonesia within striking distance of Japan, which currently occupies the 12th spot after rising one position from 13th.

The climb is a direct reflection of the team’s dominant form under head coach Hector Souto. The squad reached a historic milestone at the AFC Futsal 2026 tournament held in Jakarta this past January, where they advanced to the final for the first time in the nation’s history. A standout moment of the campaign was Indonesia’s commanding 5-3 semifinal victory over Japan, though their journey ended in the final after a narrow loss to defending champions Iran via a penalty shootout.

In addition to their AFC success, the national team recently secured a runner-up finish in the 2026 AFF Cup, where they fell 1-2 in a closely contested match against Thailand. This consistency on the pitch has solidified Indonesia’s status as a rising power in the region.

Within Southeast Asia, Thailand remains the highest-ranked team at 11th, boasting 1,354.78 points. Indonesia now holds the second-highest position in the ASEAN region, followed by Vietnam in 22nd and Myanmar in 73rd.

On the global stage, Brazil continues to maintain its grip on the top spot with 1,684.97 points. Portugal, Spain, and Argentina round out the top four in the world.

While the men’s program celebrates a new peak, the Indonesian women’s national futsal team experienced a slight setback, dropping three positions in the May 2026 FIFA rankings.

With the momentum of their recent achievements, Mochammad Iqbal Iskandar and his teammates are now shifting their focus toward two major upcoming objectives: the AFC Futsal Asian Cup and the Futsal World Cup.
