Children from Floda preschool participated in a demonstration for a cleaner environment on Wednesday evening, May 7, 2025, as part of an initiative tied to the national litter-picking campaign.
The event, held at Floda square, was organized by the preschool’s involvement in “Tredje rummet” (Third Room), a program focused on sustainability education. Families gathered for what was described as a family-friendly celebration of environmental stewardship.
The demonstration served as an extension of the annual Litter Pick Days campaign, which runs each spring and is coordinated by the Keep Sweden Tidy foundation. This year’s campaign in neighboring Tyresö municipality took place from April 20 to 26, 2025, during week 17, with schools and preschools invited to participate in litter collection and enter prize draws.
In Tyresö, the campaign emphasized sustainable consumption, encouraging children to act as “litter detectives” to trace the origins of waste found during cleanups. Educational materials and rewards were provided to participating institutions to enhance the learning experience.
Similar activities were reported at Sparrisen preschool, where staff noted children discovered items such as chip bags during their litter-picking efforts, highlighting the types of waste commonly found in public spaces.
Meanwhile, questions have been raised about the responsibility of children in environmental cleanup efforts, with educators debating whether such tasks should fall to young learners or require broader systemic solutions.
Nationwide, participation in the Litter Pick Days campaign has reached record levels, reflecting growing engagement among schools and preschools across Sweden in environmental education initiatives.
