Des Moines Radio Group Announces Programming Shifts at KSTZ and KIOA
A pair of veteran programmers are swapping roles at Saga Communications’ Des Moines Radio Group, effective today.
Jimmy Wright, a fixture at Hot AC “Star 102.5” KSTZ for 35 years, will move to Classic Hits 93.3 KIOA as Content Director and afternoon host. Wright has been with KSTZ and its predecessor station since 1990, most recently serving as Assistant Program Director, Music Director, and afternoon host, and also programs CHR “Hits 99.9” K260AM/KIOA-HD2. Leigh McNabb, currently Cluster Operations Manager, will transition to KSTZ, assuming the programming and afternoon host duties and replacing morning host Ken Auge as Content Director.
McNabb joined Saga Des Moines in September 2019 to program KIOA, rising to Operations Manager in 2020 and Cluster Director of Content in September 2023. She previously held programming roles at Audacy’s KZPT Kansas City and WXSS-FM Milwaukee. These changes represent a significant reshuffling of leadership within the Des Moines radio market, potentially impacting listenership and station strategy.
“I grew up listening to KIOA. My family listens too. It’s an honor to be a part of a legendary station like KIOA. I’m excited and looking forward to working with a GREAT staff. I’m living the dream!” Wright said. VP/General Manager Stephanie Heide added, “We are excited to promote Jimmy to this position. He is an iconic voice in the Des Moines area, and it is very fitting that with his talent, knowledge, and experience that he programs one of Des Moines’ heritage radio stations.” You can find more information about Saga Communications and its stations online.
Officials stated they anticipate a smooth transition as both Wright and McNabb are deeply familiar with the Des Moines radio landscape and the Saga Communications organization.
