Two men have been arrested in Jakarta, Indonesia, after allegedly engaging in indecent behavior on a Transjakarta bus. The incident, which occurred January 15, 2026, has prompted a police investigation and raised concerns about public safety on the city’s transportation system.

According to North Jakarta Criminal Investigation Unit Chief AKBP Onkoseno Grandiarso Sukahar, the two suspects, identified only by their initials HW and FTR, had arranged to travel home together from work on the 1A route bus.

“On January 15, 2026, around 6:00 PM local time, the two suspects, who had known each other for about three days and had been communicating, agreed to take the same bus home from the PIK Busway Shelter,” Sukahar told reporters Saturday.

Sukahar stated that both suspects and the victim were standing inside the Transjakarta bus, with the two suspects positioned behind the victim.

“Both suspects were already on the busway, and the victim had also boarded. The two suspects were standing behind the victim,” he said.

Police allege that FTR then sexually assaulted HW, causing the release of semen which landed on the victim’s clothing. Initially, the victim believed the liquid was condensation from the bus’s air conditioning system.

“Suspect FTR touched the genitals of suspect HW, causing the release of semen which landed on the victim’s clothing. The victim initially thought the liquid was dripping air conditioning water,” Sukahar explained.

According to authorities, another passenger witnessed the incident and alerted the victim. The victim then realized the substance on their clothing was semen.

“Then a man’s voice was heard choking suspect HW, saying, ‘You’re a pervert, aren’t you?’ And finally, the victim realized that the liquid on the back of their clothing was the suspect’s semen,” Sukahar stated.

Both suspects have been charged and face a maximum sentence of one year in prison.

“They have been named as suspects and are being charged under Article 406 of the National Criminal Code regarding indecent acts in public,” Sukahar said. The case highlights the challenges authorities face in maintaining public order on crowded public transportation.
