Fatal Collision Near Trebišov Claims One Life, Several Injured
A traffic accident in the Trebišov district of Slovakia on Friday, February 13, 2026, resulted in one fatality and multiple injuries, prompting a full emergency response. The incident underscores the ongoing risks associated with road travel and the potential for tragic outcomes.
According to reports, the collision involved two passenger vehicles and a bus. Emergency responders arrived at the scene near Bačkov to find several individuals injured. Four people sustained injuries, with two requiring extrication from their vehicles using hydraulic equipment, officials stated.
Police confirmed that a 57-year-old driver of an Audi crossed into oncoming traffic and collided head-on with a truck. “Today (Friday) morning, in the Trebišov district, a tragic traffic accident occurred. The 57-year-old driver of a motor vehicle of the Audi brand smoothly crossed into the opposite lane, where he collided head-on with a truck,” police said in a statement. The driver of the Audi died at the scene from his injuries.
A total of seven people were injured in the incident. Three men and one woman were among those hurt and were transported to hospitals for treatment. One man was listed in critical condition at a hospital’s intensive care unit. Another was admitted with neck and chest contusions, while two others received outpatient care.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the crash, opening a criminal case for manslaughter. “The traffic accident is in the stage of investigation,” police added. The road was closed to traffic as emergency crews worked at the scene.
Another incident occurred in the same district on January 15, 2026, involving an overturned ambulance in Cejkov, requiring the response of local firefighters.
