Trump Open to Religious Leader at Helm of Iran
In a brief phone interview with CNN, President Donald Trump indicated he would be open to a religious figure leading Iran. The comments come amid ongoing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and as international observers assess the future of Iran’s leadership. “Well, maybe, yes, it depends on the person. I have nothing against religious leaders. I know a lot of religious leaders and they are terrific,” the President stated.
When asked directly if he favored the establishment of a democratic state in Iran, Trump responded: “No, I say you have to have a just and fair leader, a leader who does a good job, who treats the United States and Israel well, and the other countries in the Middle East. They are all our partners.”
He further suggested a potential path forward, stating, “It’s going to operate remarkably easily. It’s going to work like in Venezuela. We have a terrific leader there. She’s doing a fantastic job,” referencing interim President Delcy Rodriguez.
