DERBY – After 15 years of uncertainty, the family of Izabela Zablocka finally has answers in her disappearance. A breakthrough in the case came when her dismembered body was discovered, leading to the arrest of her former partner, Anna Podedworna, who is now on trial. The case highlights the enduring pain of families left searching for missing loved ones and the challenges of bringing long-hidden crimes to light.

A trial is underway in Derby, England, for 40-year-old Anna Podedworna, accused of murdering her partner, Izabela Zablocka. Prosecutors allege that Podedworna killed Zablocka in 2010 due to jealousy and then concealed her body on the grounds of their home for 15 years, according to reports from the Daily Mail. The defendant maintains her innocence.

Prosecutor Gordon Aspden stated that following the alleged murder, Podedworna dismembered the body and buried it in a makeshift grave in the garden of their Derby home, later covering it with concrete. The prosecution contends this was a deliberate and long-term effort to conceal the crime. Zablocka, originally from Trzebiatów in northwestern Poland, had a daughter and began a relationship with Podedworna after a divorce. The two women moved to the United Kingdom in 2009 seeking employment.

Izabela Zablocka’s family last heard from her on August 28, 2010. After that phone call, she ceased all contact, and relatives reported her missing to both British and Polish authorities. For years, her family lived in anguish, unsure of her fate. It wasn’t until 2024 that her adult daughter sought assistance from the organization Missing for Years, which attempted to re-establish contact with Podedworna – who initially claimed to have no knowledge of Zablocka’s whereabouts.

A Turning Point in the Case

The case took a dramatic turn in 2025 when a Polish journalist researching the story contacted Podedworna. According to the prosecution, the pressure prompted Podedworna to contact Derbyshire police and report that Zablocka’s body was buried in the garden of their former home. A subsequent excavation led to the discovery of human remains, which DNA analysis confirmed were those of Izabela Zablocka.

Podedworna told police the death was accidental, occurring during an argument and that she acted in self-defense. However, prosecutors have dismissed these claims as false, arguing that her subsequent actions were focused on covering up the crime. Investigators say that after the alleged murder, Podedworna continued to live a seemingly normal life – her family joined her in Britain, she entered a new relationship, and had two children.

The trial is ongoing, and the jury will determine whether Podedworna is guilty of murder, obstructing justice, and improper disposal of human remains. The outcome of the trial is expected to provide closure for Zablocka’s family after a decade and a half of uncertainty.
