The University of Northern Iowa swimming adn diving team begins a four-day stretch of competition Tuesday at the hawkeye Invitational in Iowa City.Coming off a dominant performance at the Coyote Extravaganza, where they secured the team title with 14 event wins, the panthers will face a challenging field including competitors from eight other Division I programs. The invitational, hosted by the University of Iowa, provides an early-season test for UNI as they continue to build momentum.

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa — The University of Northern Iowa swimming and diving team is gearing up for a four-day competition at the Hawkeye Invitational, beginning Tuesday night in Iowa City.

The meet kicks off Tuesday at 6 p.m. CT at the Campus Recreation-Wellness Center. Competition continues with preliminary heats at 10 a.m. CT and finals at 5 p.m. CT on both Wednesday and Thursday. Friday’s schedule features prelims at 10 a.m. CT, followed by finals at 4 p.m. CT.

The Hawkeye Invitational will showcase a strong field of Division I athletes, including competitors from Iowa, Connecticut, Illinois, Iowa State, Kansas, Miami (FL), Nebraska, and Washington State. Collegiate swimming and diving continues to be a popular proving ground for future Olympic hopefuls.

UNI recently concluded its October schedule with a successful showing at the Coyote Extravaganza, where the team secured the team title over South Dakota State, South Dakota, St. Cloud State, and Augustana (S.D.). The Panthers dominated the event, earning 14 event wins over the two-day competition. Elyse Brayton, Neriah Giedrys, Hannah Nedder, and Morgan Meyer combined for a winning time of 3:52.68 in the 400-yard medley relay. Charlotte Sander, Abby Lear, and Meyer swept the podium in the 50-yard freestyle, posting times of 23.94, 24.04, and 24.05, respectively.

Sam Oeltjen claimed the top spot in the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:38.59, while Morgan Meyer continued her strong performance, winning the 100-yard freestyle in 51.96. Elyse Brayton secured first place in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 57.29, and Abigail Barkhurst swam a 5:10.99 to win the 500-yard freestyle.

The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Sander, Lear, Morgan Raether, and Meyer took first with a time of 1:34.98. The 200-yard medley relay team of Brayton, Giedrys, Nedder, and Lear also secured a victory, finishing in 1:47.93. Meyer continued to shine, topping the podium in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:54.48.

Sander repeated her success in the 50-yard freestyle, winning with a time of 23.88 – a slight improvement over her previous time. Meyer continued to demonstrate her speed, winning the 100-yard freestyle in 52.65. The 400-yard freestyle relay team of Meyer, Lear, Raether, and Averie Bilskemper finished first with a time of 3:33.30.

On the diving side, Avery Hogan, Erica Peters, and Trista Thompson swept the podium in the three-meter boards, scoring 247.40, 246.80, and 238.50, respectively. Thompson took first place on the one-meter boards with a score of 257.85, followed by Peters in second (252.85) and Hogan in fourth (245.00).
