‘V for Vendetta’ TV Series in Development at HBO
A television adaptation of the acclaimed graphic novel “V for Vendetta” is currently in development at HBO, potentially bringing the dystopian story to a new audience.
Pete Jackson is attached as the writer for the series, with James Gunn and Peter Safran of DC Studios executive producing alongside Ben Stephenson and Leanne Klein. The project is being produced by Warner Bros. Television, with Wall to Wall Media, a part of Warner Bros. Television Studios UK, also involved. HBO has found success with DC properties recently, including the Emmy-winning series “The Penguin”, a continuation of the world established in “The Batman.”
Originally penned by Alan Moore and illustrated by David Lloyd, “V for Vendetta” is set in a future Britain controlled by a fascist regime. The story follows a masked anarchist known as V and his efforts to dismantle the government with the aid of Evey Hammond. The graphic novel was first published in 1982 and later gained widespread recognition through a 2005 film adaptation starring Hugo Weaving and Natalie Portman, which grossed over $130 million worldwide. The enduring popularity of the story, and its themes of rebellion and freedom, make it a timely choice for adaptation.
Representatives for HBO and DC Studios have not yet commented on the project, and requests for comment to Jackson’s team have gone unanswered. HBO is also preparing to launch “Lanterns” in early 2026, further expanding its DC universe offerings.
Further details regarding casting, a premiere date, or the series’ direction are currently unavailable, but the project remains in active development.
