Amidst ongoing uncertainty following the detention of former President Nicolás Maduro and his wife in the United States,Venezuela’s Communist Party is escalating tensions with the government. The PCV is demanding a full accounting of a recent meeting between CIA director John Ratcliffe and interim President Delcy Rodríguez, alleging it signals a shift toward U.S. influence and questioning the government’s responsiveness to the crisis. The development underscores the delicate balance of power and shifting alliances within Venezuela as it navigates a period of unprecedented political upheaval.

Venezuela’s Communist Party is demanding answers from the government regarding a recent visit by the director of the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency, a move that underscores the complex geopolitical dynamics currently unfolding in the South American nation. The visit, which took place last week, saw CIA Director John Ratcliffe meet with Delcy Rodríguez, Venezuela’s designated president.

Oscar Figuera, the secretary general of the Communist Party of Venezuela (PCV), released a statement Tuesday calling for official explanations surrounding Ratcliffe’s trip. Figuera asserted that the presence of the high-ranking U.S. official signals “the changes that are taking place to guarantee the interests of big capital and of U.S. imperialism” within Venezuela.

The PCV leader further linked Ratcliffe to an alleged military operation on January 3, resulting in the detention of Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, who remain in custody in New York. Figuera claimed the CIA director “has a lot to do” with the operation, though details surrounding the incident remain contested.

Figuera also criticized the Venezuelan government’s response to the visit, stating, “High-ranking state officials, both civilian and military, were seen smiling, paying tribute to this citizen.” He described the current government as “dependent and subordinate.”

According to the PCV, the government has not disclosed the details of the meeting with Ratcliffe, nor has it revealed any agreements reached with U.S. President Donald Trump or Secretary of State Marco Rubio. The party reiterated its rejection of the “illegal seizure” of Maduro and his wife.

The PCV’s statements come amid recent economic developments. On Tuesday, Rodríguez announced the arrival of $300 million in the country “resulting from the sale of oil,” following a White House announcement of an agreement to market Venezuelan crude for $500 million. The case highlights the shifting economic and political landscape in Venezuela as it navigates complex relationships with international powers.

The party also called for transparency regarding negotiations with Washington. Initial images of the meeting between Ratcliffe and Rodríguez in Caracas were released last week.
