Four Latvian hip-hop artists – VIŅA, Krisy, Revolūcija, and ŪGA – are joining forces for a unique collaborative project called “Vētra KRŪ” (“Storm KRŪ”), set to debut at the fifth anniversary celebration of the Straume ‘26 urban culture festival. The festival, a significant event in the Latvian music scene, will take place July 3 and 4 at the Zeit Creative Quarter in Ligatne.

“Vētra KRŪ” promises a powerful performance blending hip-hop, R&B, and alternative music influences. The artists are currently working on an original track produced by Gustavo, and their first joint stage appearance at Straume is highly anticipated. The project’s name, which translates to “Storm KRŪ,” is a nod to the first letters of each artist’s name and symbolizes the energy created when their talents combine.

VIŅA (Zelma Jēgere) described the collaboration as a “historic moment” for Latvian hip-hop, stating, “Four powerful hip-hop artists on one stage will be something unseen and, I would say, a historical event in Latvia. It’s a great pleasure that we can be part of the Straume festival’s fifth anniversary in this composition. Visitors can expect a very stormy and powerful performance from us – Vētra KRŪ!”

The project is particularly noteworthy given the relative scarcity of female voices in the Latvian hip-hop landscape. “Vētra KRŪ” aims to showcase the genre’s diversity and highlight a novel generation of artists bringing their unique perspectives and energy to the forefront.

Revolūcija (Lūcija Bāliņa), the newest member of the group, expressed her excitement, saying, “It’s an extraordinary honor to share a stage with the most talented hip-hop ladies in Latvia. This won’t be any ‘women’s rap,’ this will be real, live hip-hop that will stream directly into your eardrums and flow all the way to your little toe! Sometimes women have to try a little harder to be noticed – so we will try with all our might! There will be power and energy, there will be the most lovely rappers playing – Vētra KRŪ!”

While publicly announced now, the artists have a history of collaboration. Last year, VIŅA, ŪGA, and Revolūcija contributed to the track “100,” produced by Veiders, marking one of the first Latvian hip-hop songs to feature three female rappers on a single recording. In December 2024, Revolūcija, ŪGA, and Krisy also appeared on the HIPHOPS.LV podcast “Bīts un Vārds,” each delivering a freestyle performance that was later included on the 2025 album “Kaizera bīts #2.”

“Vētra KRŪ” brings together artists from different generations. VIŅA and ŪGA are established figures in Latvian hip-hop, both with multiple albums and industry accolades, including “Zelta Mikrofons” (Golden Microphone) awards and nominations. Krisy blends hip-hop, pop, and electronic music and gained wider recognition in 2026 as a finalist on “Supernova.” Revolūcija, the youngest member, debuted in 2024 with the mini-album “sekcija,” performed over 20 concerts, and was nominated for a GAMMA award in the “Gada Jaunais mākslinieks” (New Artist of the Year) category.

The Straume ‘26 hip-hop festival will celebrate its fifth anniversary on July 3 and 4 at the Zeit Creative Quarter in Ligatne (Gaujas ielā 4). Previously announced performers include ansis, Marko &amp. galaktik, rolands če, Eliots, Deniss, and zaldats. The festival promises a full experience with activities, diverse food options, and a free-to-use tent city. Free parking and designated campervan spots are available, with advance reservations required.
