The on-air clash, which quickly became a talking point, highlights the ongoing scrutiny of entertainment programming and its adherence to established norms.
The confrontation began when Vlam addressed Genee directly, asking, “May I ask a question about Vandaag Inside?” He continued, “I was a little disappointed with the last season. You had a lot of establishment guests. It felt a lot like Pauw & De Wit.”
Genee, the face and host of Vandaag Inside, immediately disagreed. “Oh, come now. I think many of the people who are on the show really come across differently and shine,” he responded. “I think our guests are doing a great job.”
Vlam pressed his point, arguing that Vandaag Inside should embrace a more rebellious spirit. “Vandaag Inside should be a pirate ship,” he stated. “That rebellious sound should be heard much more often. Last season was really a well-behaved season. He (Wilfred) just needs to push back harder.”
Presenter Hendriks interjected, attempting to steer the conversation. “Well, that’s great,” she said. “Let’s discuss this during the break or during commercials, but let’s move on with the two of us for now,” in an effort to curtail Vlam’s critique.
However, Vlam wasn’t finished, turning his attention to Hendriks herself. “You have a tendency to single out a guest in the opening round and essentially throw them under the bus, like you’re doing with me now. You know why you do that. You have to show that you’re in charge.”
