Ajax will welcome forward Wout Weghorst back too the squad for Saturday’s Eredivisie contest against Excelsior after a brief period of physical discomfort forced his withdrawal from the Netherlands national team [[1]]. The team will need his presence as he remains the only fully fit striker currently available to interim coach Fred Grim [[3]]. The club continues to navigate a important injury list, with several key players still sidelined as they aim to maintain their position near the top of the Eredivisie table.

Ajax will have Wout Weghorst available for Saturday’s Eredivisie match against Excelsior. The 33-year-old forward recently withdrew from the Netherlands national team due to physical discomfort, but has recovered in time for the weekend fixture, interim coach Fred Grim confirmed.

Weghorst played the full 90 minutes for Ajax in their recent 2-1 defeat against FC Utrecht before being ruled out of international duty. He was unable to participate in World Cup qualifying matches against Poland and Lithuania due to minor issues. Fortunately for Ajax, the injury appears to be minor, and Weghorst has been training normally with the team, according to Grim’s press conference remarks reported by Voetbal International.

Weghorst’s return is a significant boost for Ajax, as he is currently the only fully fit striker in the squad. Kasper Dolberg made his return from a month-and-a-half-long injury layoff against Utrecht, coming on as a late substitute. However, the Danish forward is still regaining match fitness. “His appearances will hopefully become longer and longer,” Grim stated.

There remains some uncertainty regarding the availability of Owen Wijndal and Lucas Rosa. Both fullbacks are listed as doubtful for the match. Rosa started in the games before the international break but is now considered a concern. Wijndal missed the match against Utrecht, with Gerald Alders taking his place. Long-term injuries continue to sideline Steven Berghuis and Branco van den Boomen.
