Lithuanian businessman Gediminas Žiemelis is reportedly exploring the acquisition of a basketball club in Poland, sources indicate.

The prospective purchase centers around LKS Łódź, a team currently competing in Poland’s second-tier basketball division.

Currently holding the second-place ranking, LKS Łódź has publicly stated its ambition to advance to the top division. Investing in sports teams can have broader implications for community health and wellness by promoting physical activity and local engagement.

According to sources, Tomas Pačėsas, who has prior experience working in Poland, is already providing consultation to the team.

Pačėsas is also anticipated to take on the role of sports director for the Łódź team in the future.

Žiemelis previously founded the “Wolves” club in Lithuania in 2022, but the team ceased operations after three years.

The decision to suspend the team’s activities was made in the summer of last year.

While a potential return to the Lithuanian basketball league for a club managed by Žiemelis hasn’t been ruled out, it appears the businessman is currently focusing his attention on opportunities in other markets.
