A 17-year-old from Saint-Paul has undergone a life-saving heart transplant in Paris. The urgent procedure was necessary due to a genetic condition called cardiomyopathy, a rare disease affecting the heart muscle.
According to his family, the surgery, performed on Tuesday, was successful. The teenager remains under observation and is currently resting post-operation, but his condition is no longer considered critical. This case highlights the challenges faced by individuals with rare genetic heart conditions and the importance of timely access to specialized care.
Aurélien Centon, who supported the family through the ordeal, shared his gratitude, stating: “We had to do a lot in a short amount of time. Thank you to all the people who helped me support this family during these difficult times. But the greatest applause and thanks go to the medical teams, with a special thought for the donor and their family: their gesture saves a life.”
The family also revealed that other members on the maternal side are also affected by the same genetic cardiomyopathy. The teen’s father is currently with him, providing support during his recovery.
This case underscores the hereditary nature of some heart conditions and the importance of family screening and genetic counseling. More information about Sacha’s case can be found here.
