Bandung, Indonesia — A nine-vehicle pileup on the Cipularang Toll Road near Jakarta on Tuesday, December 2, left one person dead and five others injured. The incident, which occurred around 1:40 p.m. local time, caused significant traffic delays.

The crash involved a mix of passenger cars and large trucks, according to Cipularang Highway Patrol Chief Kompol Joko Prihantono. Vehicles involved included a Toyota Kayla, a Toyota Avanza, a Toyota HR-V, two Toyota Innovas, a HiAce City Transport van, a Honda Jazz, a Fuso truck, and a box truck.

“This accident involved many vehicles. One person died and several were injured,” Prihantono said. “The initial cause appears to be a lack of driver attention, leading to a chain reaction collision.”

Authorities quickly responded to the scene to manage traffic flow and begin the process of removing the damaged vehicles. An investigation into the exact cause of the crash is ongoing.

“Officers immediately arrived at the location, collected data on the vehicles and drivers, and ensured the roadway was safe for other travelers,” Prihantono added.

Traffic was temporarily disrupted following the incident. The Cimahi Police Traffic Unit is now handling the investigation, with further analysis being conducted by the Cikamuning traffic accident unit.

“The case has been turned over to the Cimahi Police traffic division. We are coordinating with the West Java Regional Police Highway Patrol to move the vehicles to the nearest exit at Cikamuning to prevent further congestion,” Prihantono stated.
