Flavio Cobolli and Matteo Berrettini stepped up in a major way, proving Italy’s depth extends far beyond its top-10 players.
Cobolli emerged as the unexpected hero, brilliantly filling the role of team leader and delivering three consecutive wins. He clinched the decisive point in the final against Spain, battling to a hard-fought victory over Jaume Munar with a score of 1-6, 7-6(5), 7-5.

Earlier in the week, Cobolli defeated Filip Misolic, and then staged a dramatic comeback against Zizou Bergs in the semifinals, even saving match points to secure the win. This victory solidifies Italy’s position as a dominant force in men’s team tennis.
Matteo Berrettini also proved crucial for Italy, achieving 11 consecutive singles victories in the tournament. He powered past Pablo Carreño Busta in straight sets in the final.
As a result of their strong singles play, Italy didn’t need to utilize its doubles specialists, Andrea Vavassori and Simone Bolelli, during the Finals. Lorenzo Sonego was a late addition to the championship team, stepping in to replace Musetti. Italy becomes the first nation to win three consecutive Davis Cup titles since the United States from 1970-72.

Cobolli entered the deciding match knowing a victory would secure the championship for Italy. However, he got off to a rocky start, losing the first set 6-1 against a determined Munar. He then fell behind a break in the second set before battling back with a crucial break of his own. This shift in momentum allowed him to find his rhythm and confidently hold serve. The set went to a tiebreak, where Cobolli converted his seventh set point to force a decisive third set.
The third set remained on serve until Cobolli secured a pivotal break in the 11th game.
