the La Guaira Sharks are bolstering their pitching staff with the addition of Dominican right-hander Gleyvin Pineda, team officials announced this week. Pineda joins the team as they prepare for the upcoming season and seek to defend their 2024 Caribbean Series title [[1]]. This marks the second Dominican reliever added to the Sharks’ bullpen in recent days, signaling a focused effort to strengthen their pitching depth.

La Guaira Sharks have added Dominican pitcher Gleyvin Pineda to bolster their bullpen, according to reports. The move comes as the Sharks look to strengthen their pitching depth during the current season.

The 29-year-old Pineda began his professional career as an infielder, spending five seasons in the minor leagues as a position player before transitioning to pitching in 2022. This change has seen him develop as a relief option for teams.

Pineda is the second Dominican reliever brought in by Sharks’ sports manager Fernando Veracierto, who alluded to the signings of two pitchers on Sunday without revealing their identities.

Jojanse Torres was the first, as reported by analyst Héctor Cordido, also cited by Tiburones Report.

Both Pineda and Torres are expected to arrive in Venezuela by the end of the week, according to the team’s social media accounts.

NEW RELIEVER FOR THE SHARKS

Since converting to a pitcher, Pineda has pitched in independent circuits, including the Frontier League (2022 and 2023) and the American Association (2025).

This past summer, the right-hander appeared in six games for Lake County, totaling 6.1 innings pitched. He finished with a clean sheet, recording seven strikeouts and three walks.

This won’t be Pineda’s first winter league experience outside of the Dominican Republic. He previously pitched in Puerto Rico during the 2023-2024 season, posting a 2.61 ERA and 1.55 WHIP across 10.1 innings in nine appearances.
