Nearly Half of French Voters Would Block Rassemblement National in New Elections

According to a recent “Opinion en Direct” poll by the Elabe institute for BFMTV, nearly half of French voters (49%) would prefer that parties and voters unite to prevent the Rassemblement National from gaining a majority in the National Assembly, should legislative elections be held.

Among young people aged 18 to 24, that figure rises to 60%. A similar sentiment against the RN is also prevalent among residents of rural communities (55%) and those in managerial and intermediate professions (54%).

Left-leaning voters are overwhelmingly in favor of voting to block the far-right, with 84% supporting the effort. Voters from Renaissance and its allies also largely support a blocking vote, at 67%. However, only 30% of Les Républicains voters expressed support for such a front.

Rassemblement National President Leading in Polls for 2027

With approximately a year and a half until the presidential election, Jordan Bardella remains the frontrunner in the first round, significantly ahead of Édouard Philippe and Raphaël Glucksmann, according to a Verian poll for the magazine L’Hémicycle published in late November.

Bardella would dominate the first round of the election if it were held now, garnering 35.5% to 36.5% of the vote depending on the scenario, well ahead of former Prime Minister Édouard Philippe (16.5%-17%) and Place Publique party leader Raphaël Glucksmann (11.5%-13%). Notably, the Rassemblement National president leads in all age groups. This polling data offers a snapshot of the current political landscape as France approaches a pivotal election cycle.
