Former German footballer Sebastian Hertner has died at age 34 in a tragic skiing accident in Montenegro,authorities have confirmed. The incident occurred at the savin Kuk ski resort and has prompted a safety inquiry into the resort’s lift operations, raising concerns about winter sports safety protocols. Hertner, who played professionally until 2024 for clubs including TSV 1860 Munich, is being remembered by teammates and clubs as a respected player and teammate.

A former German football player, Sebastian Hertner, has died at the age of 34 following a tragic accident at a ski resort in Montenegro. The incident, which occurred while Hertner was on vacation, highlights the risks associated with winter sports and has prompted an investigation into the safety of lift operations.

According to early reports, Hertner died after being ejected from a ski lift at Savin Kuk resort due to a technical malfunction. Investigators believe a collision between two lift cars caused him to fall approximately 70 meters. His wife, who was with him on the lift, sustained a leg fracture and head trauma and was rescued by emergency services.

Three other tourists were also evacuated after being stranded on the lift for several hours following the incident.

Hertner began his professional career in 2009 with the reserve team of VfB Stuttgart, later playing for Schalke 04 before joining TSV 1860 Munich in 2013, where he competed in the German second division. He continued to play for several lower-division clubs throughout his career.

News of Hertner’s death has prompted tributes from across the German football community. Stuttgart acknowledged his memory, recalling his 65 appearances in the 3rd division with the club’s reserve team. Jan-Philipp Rose, a member of the staff at Teutonia 05, Hertner’s last club between 2022 and 2024, described him as “a friend and a role model,” adding that his sudden passing has deeply affected everyone at the club.
