Indonesia’s Catholic community is mourning teh loss of Father Franciscus Xaverius Mudji Sutrisno, SJ, a respected priest, cultural figure, poet, and painter who died Sunday in Jakarta at age 71. HIDUPKATOLIK.COM – A prominent Indonesian Catholic priest, Father Franciscus Xaverius Mudji Sutrisno, SJ, died Sunday, December 28, 2025, at a Jakarta hospital. He was 71 years old.

Father Mudji passed away at approximately 8:43 p.m. local time at RS Carolus in Jakarta, following an illness, according to an announcement from the Diyarkara STF in Jakarta. The news of his death has prompted an outpouring of grief within the Catholic community.

His body will be laid to rest at Colese Canisius in Central Jakarta, with Requiem Masses scheduled for December 29 and 30, 2025, at 7:00 p.m. in the chapel of Kolese Kanisius. The passing of a religious leader often brings communities together in remembrance and mourning.

A procession to Girisonta is planned for December 30, 2025, at 9:00 p.m., followed by a funeral service on December 31, 2025. The service will begin with a Eucharistic celebration at 10:00 a.m. at the local parish church, and conclude with burial at Taman Maria Ratu Damai in Girisonta.

“This news came as a shock,” said Father Simon Lili Cahyadi, Chairman of STF Diyarkara. “I knew Father Mudji was battling diabetes, but his passing is truly unexpected. We were just together a few weeks ago reviewing doctoral candidate research at STF. May God now embrace Father Mudji in His infinite love.”
