Ukrainian forces are expanding their targeting of military assets within Russia, conducting recent strikes against key infrastructure used to support offensive operations. According to reports from Kyiv, attacks over the past two days focused on facilities in the Astrakhan region and occupied territories, signaling a continued Ukrainian effort to degrade Russia’s ability to sustain its war effort[[1]]. These strikes come as Ukraine increasingly employs domestically produced weaponry to reach deeper into Russian territory[[2]], even as Russia continues its own attacks on Ukrainian infrastructure[[3]].
Ukrainian forces have targeted a Russian missile maintenance facility and other military assets in recent strikes, according to reports from the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The attacks, which occurred throughout February 7 and 8, represent a continued effort to disrupt Russian logistics and military capabilities.
Preliminary reports confirm damage to a technical facility servicing medium-range ballistic missiles at the Kapustin Yar missile range in Russia’s Astrakhan region. This facility is known as a key location for launching ballistic missiles toward Ukraine.
The General Staff reported that the strikes also damaged a mounting building and a material and technical supply warehouse at the State Central Inter-Service Test Range of the Russian Ministry of Defense, also located in the Astrakhan region.
In the Zaporizhzhia region, a warehouse belonging to the Russian MTS (Mobile TeleSystems) unit was hit near Rozivka, a temporarily occupied settlement, on the night of February 8.
“Yesterday, in the area of Krasnohorske (temporarily occupied territory of Zaporizhzhia region), an area with a concentration of enemy personnel was struck,” the General Staff stated.
Additionally, a Russian drone control center was reportedly destroyed near Novoekonomichne in the temporarily occupied Donetsk region.
The extent of Russian losses and the full scope of the damage are still being assessed, according to officials.
Strikes on Russian Territory
Throughout January, Ukrainian defense forces conducted a series of successful strikes against the Kapustin Yar range. These attacks signal a growing Ukrainian capability to strike targets deeper within Russia.
The General Staff indicated that domestically produced long-range weaponry, including the FP-5 “Flamingo” system, was used in the attacks.
Military analyst Oleksandr Musienko, a member of Ukraine’s Territorial Defense Forces, emphasized the significance of the strike on Kapustin Yar, noting intelligence suggested preparations were underway to launch “Oreshnik” missiles toward Ukrainian territory. The disruption of these preparations could impact Russia’s offensive capabilities.
