France opted to suspend Pierre Crinon mid-tournament following an on-ice altercation with Tom Wilson and subsequent behavior directed at the crowd as he left the ice. The French Ice Hockey Federation cited a violation of the Olympic spirit as the reason for the suspension.
Crinon was unable to play in the round of 16, where France lost 5-1, a decision that drew the ire of his teammates. The French players publicly criticized their own federation for the move.
“We needed him today and they took him away from us for something that happens every weekend in any game,” goaltender Antoine Keller told Reuters, a sentiment as well reported by Expressen.
Pierre Crinon Faces Charges After Fight with Tom Wilson
The repercussions for Pierre Crinon extend beyond the Olympic tournament. He is now facing legal charges in France stemming from a fight in a game between Grenoble and Angers on November 30, 2025. The initial complaint was dropped in December, but authorities have reopened the case.
According to channel TVA Sports, a new indictment has been filed against the French player, alleging intentional violence with a weapon – in this case, a hockey glove. Prosecutor Etienne Manteaux confirmed that hearings are scheduled for May 27, 2026.
