A woman was found dead near a railway track in Kochi, India, on February 24, 2026, and police have arrested a suspect in connection with her death. The incident underscores the ongoing challenges of ensuring public safety in the region.

The victim has been identified as Sudha Baby, 46, of Chingavanam, Kottayam. According to police, she died from a head injury and sustained other injuries indicating a struggle.

Shaji, a 63-year-old former High Court employee from Ponurunni, has been taken into custody, authorities confirmed. He was identified as the suspect through CCTV footage.

Investigators say the preliminary investigation suggests an argument between Baby and Shaji on the night of February 23, 2026, may have led to the fatal attack. CCTV footage showed the pair arriving at the railway track in a car around 11:30 p.m.

A railway track worker discovered Baby’s body around 3:00 a.m. On February 24, 2026, and alerted police. A mobile phone found near the body helped lead investigators to the suspect. Further footage showed Shaji alone near the tracks, with what appeared to be bloodstains on his shirt, prompting his arrest in Kakkanad.

Police are continuing to investigate, focusing on evidence from Baby’s mobile phone. The case is being investigated by the Marad Police.
