Bogotá residents and visitors will have a range of recreational activities to choose from during Semana Santa, or Holy Week, as the Instituto Distrital de Recreación y Deporte (IDRD) rolls out a city-wide program from March 29 to April 4, 2026. The initiative aims to provide options for leisure and community engagement across the Colombian capital.
The IDRD will host events in parks, CEFE centers, and community spaces, catering to diverse age groups and interests. Details of the full schedule are available on the Bogotá city website.
Programming will coincide with a special Ciclovía operation, with designated bike routes open on specific days, and adjusted access to the Monserrate mountain trail. This coordinated approach seeks to maximize opportunities for outdoor recreation.
For young children, activities are planned between March 29 and March 31 at locations including Gilma Jiménez Park in Kennedy, the Children’s Park at Simón Bolívar Park in Barrios Unidos, the Bosques de San Carlos Recreovía in Rafael Uribe Uribe, the Virgilio Barco Library, and the Levántate y Anda Foundation, also in Barrios Unidos. These events will focus on play, creativity, and learning.
Recreational activities will also be offered for adults on March 31 at Casa Hogar Amavid in Kennedy and the Servita Coliseo CDC in Usaquén. Programs are scheduled for people with disabilities at the Crecer Center in Usaquén and for seniors at the Alegrías y Recuerdos de Antaño Senior Home in Barrios Unidos, all on March 31.
The IDRD is also highlighting several parks for Semana Santa visits, including Simón Bolívar Metropolitan Park, Virgilio Barco Metropolitan Park, and Bosques de San Carlos Metropolitan Park. A full list of recommended parks can be found on the IDRD website.
“This programming is designed so that all people, regardless of age or condition, can enjoy Bogotá in an active, safe and community way,” said Daniel García Cañón, director of the IDRD, according to the city government. The IDRD’s announcement details the comprehensive plan for the holiday period.
