RSU Dominates Mārupes SC to Claim Latvian Women’s Volleyball Championship

The Rīgas Stradiņa universitātes (RSU) volleyball team has officially been crowned the champions of the Latvian women’s volleyball league after a commanding performance in the finals series. On April 15, 2026, RSU secured their third consecutive victory to sweep the series 3-0, leaving Mārupes SC without a single win in the final showdown.

Playing on their home court, RSU delivered a decisive blow in the final match, winning 3-0 with set scores of 25:18, 25:21, and 25:19. This victory capped a dominant run where RSU proved too strong for their opponents, having previously won the first game of the series 3-0 at home and the second match 3-1 away.

The championship effort was led by standout individual performances. Loreta Martinsone paced the winning side as the top scorer with 14 points, followed closely by Agija Ankevica with 13 points and Monta Urbāne, who contributed 11 points. For Mārupes SC, Amanda Regute led the effort with 14 points, while Liene Šimkuse added 11.

RSU’s path to the title was marked by consistency throughout the postseason. In the semifinals, they swept RVS/LU 2-0 in a best-of-three series to earn their place in the finals. This victory ensures RSU maintains its grip on the national title, following a similar success last year when RSU/MSĢ defeated Mārupes SC 3-0 in the final.

While RSU celebrates the gold, the battle for the remaining podium spots continued. In the bronze medal series, RVS/LU took an early 1-0 lead after defeating Daugavpils Sporta skola 3-1 (25:23, 25:20, 22:25, 25:22) in the first game played on April 15, 2026. Mārupes SC, despite the loss in the finals, finishes the season with silver medals for the second consecutive year.
