Dubai — A baby girl born at just 22 weeks gestation has become the most premature infant ever recorded in the United Arab Emirates, medical staff at King’s College Hospital London in Dubai confirmed this week.
The infant, named Taliyah, was delivered on April 15, 2024, weighing only 1.1 pounds (500 grams) at birth. She required immediate intensive care and has remained in the hospital’s neonatal intensive care unit since her delivery.
According to hospital officials, Taliyah’s survival marks a significant milestone in neonatal care within the UAE, reflecting advancements in medical technology and specialized treatment for extremely preterm infants. Her case has drawn attention from healthcare professionals across the region.
Doctors emphasized that while such early births carry substantial risks, ongoing monitoring and tailored interventions have supported her development so far. The hospital continues to provide round-the-clock care as she progresses toward discharge.
This achievement underscores the growing capabilities of specialized neonatal units in the Gulf region to manage high-risk pregnancies and improve outcomes for vulnerable newborns.
