Vienna-based restaurant operator Gastrodogs Gastronomieentwicklungs- und Betriebs GmbH has entered insolvency proceedings, with the Commercial Court of Vienna opening bankruptcy proceedings against the company on April 21, 2026.
The company, which operates the Taverna restaurant in Vienna’s 1080 district, cited declining evening dining trends, rising operational and personnel costs and reduced foot traffic in the gastronomy sector as key factors behind its financial distress. According to the insolvency filing, creditors are owed approximately €1.32 million, affecting around 25 creditors.
The Alpenländische Kreditorenverband (AKV) confirmed the proceedings, noting that no efforts toward business continuation or restructuring are planned. Instead, the company will be closed and liquidated. The creditor claims deadline is set for June 4, 2026, with a examination meeting scheduled for June 18, 2026. Insolvency administrator Dr. Helmut Platzgummer has been appointed to oversee the process.
The Taverna, located in Vienna’s Albertgasse, has been a notable establishment in the city’s dining scene. Its closure marks another significant development in Vienna’s competitive restaurant market, where shifting consumer behaviors and economic pressures continue to challenge traditional hospitality businesses.
Creditors may submit their claims through the AKV starting immediately, as confirmed in the insolvency notice published by the creditors’ association.
