Cuban activists in Miami are preparing for a major demonstration this weekend aimed at pressuring for democratic change on the island, with prominent dissident Rosa María Payá among the featured speakers.
The event, titled “Unidos por una Cuba libre” (United for a Free Cuba), is scheduled for Sunday, April 26, 2026, from 5 p.m. To 8 p.m. At the FPL Solar Amphitheater in Bayfront Park, Miami. Organized by the Assembly of the Cuban Resistance (ARC) and the Support and Convocation Committee, the gathering will include prayers and public appeals for the liberation of the Cuban people from communist rule.
According to organizers, the demonstration seeks to unite actions both inside and outside Cuba in a coordinated effort to demand freedom, faith, and human dignity. Orlando Gutiérrez Boronat, a spokesperson for ARC, emphasized the simultaneous nature of the activities during a press conference held on Wednesday, April 23, 2026.
Among the confirmed guests are activists Orlando Gutiérrez-Boronat, Silvia Iriondo, and Rosa María Payá, who has develop into a leading voice in the Cuban opposition since the death of her father, Oswaldo Payá, in 2012. Payá, a human rights advocate and president of the Latin American Network of Youth for Democracy in Cuba, has repeatedly challenged the Cuban government’s official account of her father’s death, asserting it was not an accident.
In addition to the march, the event will feature participation from religious figures, musicians, and other civil society leaders, including Alex Otaola, Nissim Elnecavé, Father Juan Lázaro Vélez, Pastor Alex Bosa, and performers such as Kamankola, Raudel Escuadrón, and Amaury Gutiérrez.
The demonstration underscores the ongoing efforts by the Cuban diaspora in Florida to maintain international attention on political repression in Cuba and to advocate for a peaceful transition to democracy on the island.
