Oman’s IoT Subscriptions Surge Nearly 79% to 1.57 Million
Muscat, Oman – Oman’s Internet of Things (IoT) sector experienced substantial growth, with subscriptions increasing by 78.9 percent to reach 1.57 million by the end of August 2025, according to data released today by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).
The latest telecommunications figures reveal a robust expansion across multiple sectors, with mobile broadband services leading the way at 5.58 million active subscriptions. Fixed broadband connections also saw gains, rising 3.1 percent to 593,262 subscriptions, contributing to an overall 13.2 percent year-over-year increase in the mobile services market, totaling 8.13 million subscriptions. This growth in connectivity is expected to further accelerate Oman’s digital transformation initiatives.
Within the mobile market, postpaid services increased by 2.6 percent to 1.25 million, while prepaid services grew at a faster rate of 4.3 percent, reaching 5.31 million subscriptions. Fiber optic technology continued its strong performance with an 11.9 percent increase to 347,199 subscriptions, while fixed 5G saw more modest growth of 0.7 percent to 217,660 subscriptions. However, older technologies experienced declines, with fixed 4G subscriptions falling 44.1 percent to 15,885 and Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) services dropping 43.3 percent to 10,942. Satellite subscriptions showed a notable increase of 23.7 percent to 825 connections, while other technologies like internet over power lines, Ethernet, and leased lines decreased by 12.3 percent to 751 subscriptions.
