John Stamos Defends Lori Loughlin, Accuses Ex-Husband of Role in College Scandal

Actor John Stamos publicly defended his longtime friend Lori Loughlin today, following the recent announcement of her separation from husband Mossimo Giannulli after 28 years of marriage, and directly implicated Giannulli in the 2019 college admissions scandal.

Appearing on the Good Guys podcast, Stamos, 62, described Loughlin, 61, as a “saint” and expressed heartbreak over the split. He went on to call Giannulli, also 62, a “terrible narcissist” and asserted that Loughlin “put up with a lot” during their marriage. Stamos alleged Giannulli “dragged [Lori] through” the scandal, in which the couple were accused of paying bribes to secure their daughters’ admission to the University of Southern California. The scandal led to prison sentences for both Loughlin and Giannulli, and sparked a national debate about equity in college admissions.

“I know she didn’t” participate in wrongdoing, Stamos stated, recalling a conversation with Loughlin the day the scandal broke where she reportedly told him, “Mossimo handles all that stuff.” He further claimed Loughlin seemed unaware of the alleged scheme prior to their arrest. He described Loughlin’s reaction to serving a three-month prison sentence as remarkably composed, noting she told him she “met a lot of nice ladies in there. We have a book club.” Stamos also questioned whether their daughter, Olivia Jade, even desired a traditional college experience, suggesting she was thriving with her online presence. Stamos indicated he was declining to comment on rumors of infidelity by Giannulli, but emphasized the profound impact the situation has had on Loughlin. He described her as an “angel” who consistently “cleaned everything up” for her husband. The separation marks the latest chapter in a highly publicized legal battle and personal turmoil for the Full House actress. For more on celebrity splits, visit People Magazine.

Representatives for Giannulli have not yet responded to requests for comment, and the terms of the separation remain undisclosed.
