Damson Idris Fuels Black Panther Speculation Alongside Angela Bassett at Vogue World

Actor Damson Idris’ appearance with Angela Bassett, who portrays Queen Ramonda, at Vogue World: Hollywood yesterday has intensified rumors he is being considered to take on the role of T’Challa in future Marvel Studios films.

Images circulating online show Idris and Bassett walking together on a runway during the event, with Bassett in costume as Queen Ramonda, complete with a purple gown and gold jewelry. The pair were surrounded by performers and photographers, prompting social media users to speculate about a potential “soft launch” of Idris as the new Black Panther. One post claiming “yeah that’s T’challa” garnered over 1.5 million views.

Idris previously addressed the possibility of joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe during a television interview, responding to a question about conversations with Marvel with a playful “Yes-no!” He did, however, confirm he would accept the role if offered. This speculation follows the passing of Chadwick Boseman, who originated the role of T’Challa, and the subsequent need to determine the character’s future within the franchise. Marvel may be considering a reimagining of the character, potentially focusing on Toussaint, Prince T’Challa, as introduced in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

Director Ryan Coogler has expressed his hope for the continued exploration of Wakanda in future films, telling The New York Times he wants “people are still making movies about Wakanda long after we’re gone.” The future of Wakanda and the role of T’Challa remain central to the ongoing narrative of the MCU, and a decision on casting will significantly impact the direction of the franchise.

Marvel Studios has not yet made any official announcements regarding casting for the role of Black Panther.
